the interpretation

Landscape and Industry...

I gave this a great deal of thought last night. As I stated yesterday, I am working on 3 pieces to enter into this upcoming competition. Last night I was working on untitled 123. I started to rethink my conceptual development. I felt I was going in the wrong direction and if something doesn't feel right, I know it never will. So the competition is to depict the relationship and interaction between the natural and the manufactured world. Each artist should explore the complex relationship between the natural and deliberate creation. untitled 123 is going to represent exactly this. By creating an outer shell of the pod with natural reed and vine; the inner part will be an elaborate controlled mesh (although will appear completely chaotic) of very fine gauged copper wire. The wire is very weathered with a beautiful mauve patina. I believe it compliments the natural colors of the vines and reed very well. If all goes well, untitled 123 will depict the natural (nature) being forced to adapt its form to the chaos that the industrial materials of the copper (industry) are imposing onto it. The shape of the pod and the placement of the representation of the natural vs industrial will leave one to ponder...

Is industry pushing nature outwards to the brink of extinction or is nature rebelling and closing in on industry? Are the two forces adversaries at all or is it a natural progression to man kind’s ease of the industrial revolution. In the end, will nature always find a way?

hard at work

I am a contemporary sculptural weaver trying to stretch every form i create to the brink. I have a submittable deadline for a show that is approaching vastly. Basically I have one month to complete and execute my idea. The show is entitled "Landscape and Industry". I plan to post pictures and updates of my progress just so I can keep myself in check. Sometimes I have a hard time staying focused. I'm working on it. Hopefully for this small collection, I will have completed three pieces. One made entirely out of vine, reed and sea grass. Another made completely out of fiberglass, copper wire and coiled straight sea grass. The third will be a combination of twisted wire, vine and reed. All three are started but now comes the time for complete execution. Pictures of my work in progress are soon to follow.
